- Differentiate between coaching, mentoring, training and counseling, recognise the skills involved in each and when to ask for help
- Recognise the blocks and barriers to people showing their true potential
- Use a 5 step model as a tool to identify where the blocks appear
- Understand the four stages in the training cycle and their role in each stage
- Take into account the learning style(s) of the learner and adapt their own style to suit
- Identify where the gaps in skills and knowledge exist and help the learner think for themselves
- Recognise the stages in a mentoring relationship and what ground rules to discuss at the start
- Understand the factors that inhibit giving constructive feedback
- Use a three step process to deliver constructive feedback
- Determine when instruction is useful and when it is counter productive
- Use the GROW ME model to structure a conversation that encourages the learner to take responsibility and action
