An experience-based programme including full day workshop aimed at Managers and those responsible for developing others. Training, coaching and mentoring people, the systematic training cycle and making the manager a trained trainer
FORMAT
Full day workshop with 1 trainer leading the group. Highly interactive. Group work and work in pairs. Post course e-prompts and buddy coaching help integrate learning into day-to-day behaviours. Max group size 15.

- What is meant by the terms ‘coaching’, ’mentoring’, ‘training’, ‘counselling’
- The Manager’s role in developing people.
- Learning styles and the training cycle
- Preparing to coach a skill using step-by-step learning
- Ground rules for a mentoring relationship
- Effective and ineffective questions and listening skills
- GROW ME process of asking questions to encourage the learner to take responsibility
- Giving constructive feedback
- Real life practice sessions
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN DO AS A RESULT
- Differentiate between coaching, mentoring, training and counseling, recognise the skills involved in each and when to ask for help
- Recognise the blocks and barriers to people showing their true potential
- Use a 5 step model as a tool to identify where the blocks appear
- Understand the four stages in the training cycle and their role in each stage
- Take into account the learning style(s) of the learner and adapt their own style to suit
- Identify where the gaps in skills and knowledge exist and help the learner think for themselves
- Recognise the stages in a mentoring relationship and what ground rules to discuss at the start
- Understand the factors that inhibit giving constructive feedback
- Use a three step process to deliver constructive feedback
- Determine when instruction is useful and when it is counter productive
- Use the GROW ME model to structure a conversation that encourages the learner to take responsibility and action
