Understanding how to best communicate to your manager requires an understanding of their communications style, management challenges and needs from you.
FORMAT
One day accelerated workshop followed by post course e-prompts and buddy coaching to help integrate learning into day-to-day behaviours. Practical and interactive. Includes group work and work in pairs.
THEMES
- When your manager needs you:
How to take delegation effectively, Proactive support. - Using the right communication style:
What’s theirs? What’s yours? Working effectively with their style. - When you need your manager:
Outcomes, obstacles, options and output. Stating Your Case and getting a quick decision. Preparing Your Own Case (based on real situation). - At the Right Time:
When to escalate, where and when to do it (and not do it). - Taking Feedback into your own hands:
Asking how it’s going, volunteering to help, creating new opportunities and being on your managers team.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN DO AS A RESULT
- Understand their role in comparison to that of their manager
- When being delegated, know what information is needed and how to ask the right questions and confirm what has been said
- Know what the right style of communication should be, based on the manager they work for and what their preferences are
- Get clear on their manager’s end game and what options they are able to use to get there
- Get quick decisions that might otherwise hold things up
- Know when to escalate an issue and how to do so (and when to avoid escalating)
- Take ownership for the feedback they need and know how to get it and create new opportunities
