James Marshall
Trainer and Facilitator
After 11 years at the BBC James left to pursue a career Trainer and Executive coach and specializes in Leadership and Management Development Courses. He is currently fronting a global Impact & Presence Course for Senior Management at Novartis in San Francisco, Boston and Liverpool.
He has designed and facilitated courses for a wide variety of clients including Standard Life, Citigroup, John Lewis, Environment Agency, Natural England, MTV, Channel 4, BASF and the Institute of Neurology. He is also currently spearheading a campaign to introduce public speaking skills into Britain’s state schools.
James has had over twenty years experience in the private, public and voluntary sectors. He began life as a Property Investment Surveyor, graduating from John Moores University and worked with international property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle. He left Surveying to join the BBC specializing in psychology programmes.
At BBC Radio 4 he produced the late, great Prof Anthony Clare on All in the Mind and the just great Prof Laurie Taylor on Thinking Allowed. He also launched the popular science programme The Material World.
He then moved to BBC Television to make documentaries and was one of the book researchers and producers on The Human Mind with Prof Lord Robert Winston. As a BBC Development Producer he originated the BBC2 programme The Speaker, the UK's largest public speaking competition. Whilst at the BBC he spent a year as part of the BBC's Change Management scheme, trained under their Executive Coaching Programme and worked as a BBC Trainer.
In his spare time James has spent 16 years as a Samaritan selecting, training and tutoring potential volunteers. He lives in London with his wife and baby daughter Eva, is an obsessive Toastmaster and has his eternal optimism challenged by supporting Everton FC.
